REMEDIAL MASSAGE is the systematic assessment and treatment of the muscles, tendons, ligaments and connective tissues of the body to assist in rehabilitation, pain and injury management. If a person has suffered a moderate injury resulting in structural pain and/or loss of function, then remediation is required to reduce or eliminate pain and restore that function. Remedial massage is designed to balance muscle/soft tissue length, tension, tone which in turn promotes the return to normal joint/capsular/bone position, increasing the flow of blood and lymph, particularly in the injured areas, thus aiming to reduce or remove blockages, damaged cells, scar tissue and adhesions resulting from injury.
DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE is designed to reach the deepest layers of muscle and fascia, also called connective tissue, to alleviate pain in the joints, ligaments & muscles. Deep tissue massage uses many of the same movements and techniques as Swedish massage, with the pressure generally being more intense as the therapist works to release chronic muscle tension or “knots” (also known as “adhesions”). Benefits may include: aiding in reducing stress, anxiety & headaches, increase in blood circulation helping to prevent injury and muscle tension or soreness, improvement of athletic performance and recovery, assistance of helping to break up scar tissue from old injuries and may reduce or support arthritic pain.
PREGNANCY MASSAGE is aimed at supporting a woman’s body as it goes through many changes during pregnancy both physically and emotionally. Some of the most common discomforts are: backaches, sore neck, leg cramps, headaches, lack of sleep and edema (or swelling). Pregnancy massage reduces stress on weight-bearing joints, encourages blood and lymph circulation, helps to relax nervous tension- which may aid in better sleep, and help relieve depression or anxiety caused by hormonal changes. A Pregnancy Massage can be spiritually uplifting with studies also indicating that massage therapy performed during pregnancy may improve labour outcomes.
RELAXATION MASSAGE (also known as Swedish Massage) is a deeply relaxing massage with both physical and emotional benefits that can help to calm your nerves allowing the body’s muscles to relax. Through increased circulation, this massage also helps to soothe aches and sprains, boost immune function, relieve stress and temporarily lower blood pressure. When muscles are overworked, an accumulation of waste products such as lactic acid can cause soreness, stiffness and even muscle spasm. Relaxation Massage may help the body rid itself of these toxins, reducing muscular tension and assisting in the releasing of endorphins, the body’s own natural repairing agents. This has been known to help relieve stress-related issues, improve sleep quality and promote a better sense of relaxation and wellbeing.
HOT STONE MASSAGE has the added benefit of warmed stones positioned on the body to maximise therapeutic benefit of the massage. The stones used are typically river rocks or other very smooth-surfaced stones. These stones are heated in sanitising water before use. Hot stone massages are beneficial on both physical and psychological levels. The heat from the stones helps your muscles relax, allowing the massage therapist to manipulate your deep tissues more effectively. Always check with your doctor before getting a hot stone massage as individuals with certain conditions, including pregnant women and people with high blood pressure, are advised to avoid this type of therapy.
REHABILITATION MASSAGE is a site-specific treatment aimed at restoring your body back to its normal health after you have sustained a severe injury or as part of a post-surgical intervention plan. This treatment helps to reduce pain from injuries (including repetitive strain, workplace injuries or poor ergonomics), amputations, strokes, recovery from accidents and rheumatoid arthritis. By stretching tight tissue and breaking down adhesions, this massage can help flush out swelling in joints, allowing to support faster healing, reduce stiffness, restore movement and provide relaxation.
SPORTS & SPORTS INJURY MASSAGE typically utilises more vigorous forms of massage to facilitate muscle healing or relaxation. This massage technique helps the body recover after exercise or to prepare the body before exercise. It focuses on the use of massage to assist training, prevent injury, and treat sports injuries. Beneficial not only for professional sports people or people that exercise heavily but for anyone that exercises, even if it is only mild exercise such as regular walking.
LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE is a gentle massage performed by a specially trained lymphatic massage therapist to stimulate the circulation of lymph fluid around the body. This helps to rapidly speed up the removal of wastes and toxins from a sluggish lymphatic system. Lymphatic massage can aid in the prevention of swelling after injury or surgery and is also thought to provide a major boost to your immune system. Some of the conditions that may benefit from lymphatic drainage massage include: swollen legs or arms due to fluid retention, swelling of a limb: pre or post-surgery, breast tenderness & congestion, fibromyalgia & lupus, chronic fatigue syndrome, depression & anxiety, hormonal & emotional imbalances, cellulite fat accumulation, recurrent infections such as colds, flu, tonsillitis, sinus & yeast infections.
